From the kennels

Where to start?
Over the last three months we have hand 20 dogs handed in by their owners/trainers for a variety of reasons. Seven of these came from the guy i told you about who used to put them all to sleep. Thankyou...
We have had 12 strays come in and two sisters from a vets where they had been taken to be killed at 3yrs old.

I'd like to tell you about some of them.

Two weeks before the Dog Show i had a call from a guy in Halifax who had got 2 greyhound girls off the internet," free to a good home." He had only had them 3 days when he went to his kennels and found the little black bitch, Emily Rose four and a half yrs old, dead on the floor. What should he do? I went and got her, he had wrapped her up in black bin liners, but i needed to see her tattoo. Although she was dead, the fleas were still crawling all over her. It was awful, so sad.
I made a few phone calls,, the last owner rang me back spitting feathers, he has only just got back racing as he had been warned off for doing things to his dogs, prior to that she had belonged to Mr Bradman who has made several appearances on this site. I'm not surprised she had lost the will to live. Needless to say he threatened to come over, with his friend, and sort me out.  Bless..
She has been cremated and is here under the blossom tree with the others.. The other greyhound girl was in perfect condition and turned out to be Pim's sister.

That was the Monday. Friday night found me sat outside a vets in Pontefract waiting for the vet to try and talk the owners of two 3yr old sisters into not putting them to sleep. He got them. Thankyou.

A few weeks later in came Ramsay, Royal York, nearly 6yrs old, raced at Nottingham. A stinking, filthy boy. Scars all over and a massive abcess on his nose. The reason? His rotting, rotten mouth.
Five days of antibiotics and a trip to the vets. He is so much happier now. He reminds me of Jeremy.

Then a few days after that Kate rang from the stray kennel. The Dog Warden had got a greyhound girl that had been stuck in a wood for a couple of days. The vet wanted to put her to sleep. NO....
Kate and her husband brought her over that night. The red stuff is fleas and flea dirt. She is the sweetest 3yr old little girl. Antibiotics, a bath and lots of tlc. Not rocket science is it?

Still there isn't a problem with greyhound racing. Is there? Deb
